As the heat wave continues here on the west coast and we break North American temperatures I wanted to share my summer wellness essentials to help you beat the heat! As I sit here and type this the temperature is creeping upwards of the mid 40's (degrees celsius) with a broken A/C unit trying its best. My husband and I recently moved to the "desert" of BC, Canada after a decade in vibrant downtown Vancouver we were seeking a change, more space and those extreme desert climates with hot summers and snowy winters. Although, I miss the energy and all the inspiration the ocean brings we are loving it so far with evening lake swims, wine tours, my first thriving herb garden and space for our Aussie, Rocky to run around.
Over the past few years I've become intentional with where and what I shop for, being mindful to not get sucked into the latest trends or item in vogue. When it comes to intentional shopping I seek local, sustainable and just plain cool shops that are making a difference in their communities. Here's my round-up of all my current fav things from the dress I'm living in to the beautiful craft I make my iced tea in and essential skincare keeping my skin hydrated this summer.
Summer Wellness Essentials
My Summer Outfit Essentials
I've had my eye on these for two years as they are quite the investment but well worth it! Easily transitional from day to evening, comfy and sure to elevate any outfit. I bought mine from Canadian boutique Field Study.
Having met Emily the founder and designer of Bahhgoose at a local market we immediately connected over our time spent in Australia and Bali where she ethically creates her clothing with local artisans. This dress allows you to look put together effortlessly all summer long.
Not my first bucket hat, you either love them or you hate them. This hat is my go-to sun hat giving a cool shaded feeling and summer boho vibe. I grabbed mine from local shop Ma Maison + Co.
Dear friend Laila founder and designer of Harly Jae is committed to changing the fashion industry with her ethical clothing brand and zero-waste collection including this perfect summer tote!
My Summer Face + Body Care Essentials
I'll be honest I sweat more than the average person so finding an all natural deodorant that worked, smelt nice and went on smoothly was quite the journey. I discovered this amazing product at Fig Face, I love the Third Rose as it is naturally astringent for added protection during these warmer months.
There are many amazing natural face sunscreens out there but I happen to love this white tea infused mineral sunscreen as it is light weight and feels incredibly soft when on, great for under make-up as well! White tea is amazing for the skin with its high antioxidant properties it helps to prevent damage and protect against air-born pollutants that can cause stress on the skin.
I was recommended this Hyaluronic Sea Serum by Colette (our Beauty Base Tea blend designer and skin expert) for the summer to boost hydration in this much dryer climate. Plus, it is made from sustainably harvested ocean seaweeds! You can reach out to Colette of Clarité Wellness for a virtual skin analysis and personal product recommendations through her online shop.
My Summer Hydration Essentials
I discovered this beautiful iced tea carafe at local Vancouver Old Faithful Shop with its easy to use structure and sleek design I had to have it! It is currently in my fridge cooling our Hibiscus Lemonade Tea.
Speaking of iced tea my summer go-to is our NEW Hibiscus Lemonade Tea designed to be served over ice to boost hydration, quench your thirst and revitalize nutrients! It is bold in flavour with its sour hibiscus and sweet lemongrass, lemon verbena balanced with brightening calendula and mineral rich stinging nettle leaf. A must on stand-by in your fridge all summer long!
No better vessel than Italian mouth blown glass to transport you to an Italian sea-side patio with a glass full of iced Hibiscus Lemonade tea. I discovered these and other amazing items at local boutique Obakki who specializes in curating beautiful artisan products from around the world, working directly with the makers to help grow and sustain their businesses. (P.S they are also great for wine, do as the Italian do ya?)
Of course one for the puppers! I found this at my local pet shop (I've linked to Amazon to find the details) it has been incredibly handy for our girl Rocky while on hikes and walks in this desert heat!
